Friction stir welding (FSW) is a method using frictional heat created by a rotating tool to join two parts. When errors occur, such as excessive or insufficient heating, the FSW process can introduce various flaws at different locations in the weld. Olympus has developed a fully automated solution to inspect friction stir welds in fuel tanks fabricated for the aerospace industry.
