Overview
Smarter, More Adaptable Circumferential Weld Inspection
The next-generation HSMT-Flex™ scanner streamlines encoded girth weld ultrasonic inspection with design enhancements that help reduce the risk of rescans, simplify setup, and support high-quality data acquisition—enabling inspectors to work more efficiently and confidently in demanding environments. The HSMT-Flex scanner attaches to the surface using magnetic wheels and is capable of inspecting pipe outer diameters ranging from 114 millimeters (4.5 inches) to flat surfaces. Its folding mechanism ensures that all spring-loaded probe holders maintain consistent and perpendicular contact pressure on the inspection surface. Now available in a high-temperature model, the HSMT-Flex scanner also supports inspections on hot surfaces, helping to minimize downtime and maintain asset integrity.
Features

Ensure Data Quality and Reduce Rescans
- Real-Time Monitoring and Alerts
The optional ScanDeck™ module can be used to remotely start the acquisition on the OmniScan flaw detector. It also checks probe coupling and warns of excessive scanning speed—preventing missed data and enhancing inspection reliability. - Integrated Laser Guide
The laser guide integrated in the ScanDeck module supports precise scan alignment to ensure optimal weld coverage. - Smartphone Integration (optional)
Mount a smartphone to monitor scan data live via the OmniScan™ X4 RCS app—streamline your workflow and stay focused on scanning.
Work Continuously with Fewer Interruptions
- Integrated Braking System
Locks the scanner in place to prevent slippage when pausing or manipulating instrument, preserving data integrity. - Streamlined Cable Management
A zippered sleeve keeps cables secure and protected, creating a clean, safer inspection environment and reducing cable-related interruptions. - Improved Wear-Resistant Wheels
Durable magnetic rubber wheels with pliant coverings provide smooth rolling and strong pipe adhesion, enabling high data quality and minimizing maintenance.
Adapt Quickly to Varying Weld Types and Pipe Geometries
- Toolless Adjustments
Easily adjust probe holders, frame, encoder, umbilical mount, ScanDeck™ module, and cable sleeve—no tools required. Swap wedges and probes quickly using the vertical latching system. - Configurable Probe Mounting
Mount probes inside or outside the frame to scan complex geometries such as pipe-to-component configurations. - Choice Of Different Frame Bar Lengths
Expand to hold up to 8 probes (PA and TOFD) with larger PCS for thick-wall parts or reduce size to fit tight inspection areas.
Minimize Downtime with Safer, Reliable Hot-Surface Scanning
- The high-temperature HSMT‑Flex HT scanner enables continuous inspections on surface temperatures up to 350 °C (662 °F)*. Inspections can be performed before shutdowns are complete, supporting earlier defect detection and more efficient maintenance planning.
- Heat-Resistant Components
Metal wheels withstand direct contact with hot surfaces, while all other parts are radiation-resistant for safe use in high-temperature environments. - Operational Efficiency
Inspect hot pipes, tanks, or pressure vessels without waiting for full cooldown—identify issues early and reduce unplanned downtime.
*Continuous scanning up to 300 °C (572 °F) with the ScanDeck module. Cables and sleeve tolerate short-term contact with hot surfaces.
