Exploring Advanced Ultrasonic Inspection Techniques: Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Phase Coherence Imaging (PCI)

Exploring Advanced Ultrasonic Inspection Techniques: Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Phase Coherence Imaging (PCI)

This webinar delves deeply into two advanced ultrasonic techniques onboard Evident’s Omniscan X3 64 - Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Phase Coherence Imaging (PCI). TFM, owing primarily to its focusing abilities, is effective in challenging applications providing improved resolution and accurate sizing. PCI, which is an amplitude free technique, has vastly improved the visualisation and characterisation capabilities for some of the most difficult to detect defects. Both techniques use the same elementary A-scans but have different advantages and limitations due to their signal processing methods.

The accuracy of imaging can be affected by material properties, object geometry, and the quality of the transducer. Additionally, it can be time-consuming and necessitates a significant amount of data processing. Understanding the fundamental principles behind these two techniques is vital for successful application in the field. This webinar aims to explain the theory and practical applications of these techniques and highlight their strengths and limitations.

Experts
Sr. Product Manager, NDT Solutions, APAC

Dennis Chai has over 19 years of nondestructive testing (NDT) experience. This includes eight years working as an inspector in the oil and gas, construction, and maintenance industries using ultrasonic testing (UT), eddy current testing (ECT), and magnetic flux leakage (MFL) techniques and advanced methods such as phased array (PA) and time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD). For the last nine years, Dennis has been working on the development, deployment, and support of leading-edge NDT products and solutions in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Recently, he has been heavily involved in the design of novel inspection solutions for austenitic welds, full matrix capture (FMC)/total focusing method (TFM)/phase coherence imaging (PCI) applications, and corrosion inspections in components with complex geometry.

Product Manager, APAC NDT, Evident Scientific, Singapore

Prasanth joined as an NDT specialist in 2019 providing application development & support for customers in Asia Pacific region. He holds a Master’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur and has been in the NDT industry for over 7 years. He comes with a proven track record of delivering high quality inspection, training & consultancy services - specializing in advanced UT & PAUT techniques. ASNT and PCN level 3 certified, he worked in wide range of projects across various industries, including Oil and Gas, Power Generation and Ship Building. At Olympus/Evident he works closely with industry experts in developing niche application solutions and implementation of latest techniques like TFM & PCI.

General Manager, NDT Business Unit, APAC, Evident Scientific, Singapore

François-Côme is the General Manager for NDT in Asia-Pacific. He oversees the NDT products, including customized solutions, integrations, and systems, for the APAC region.

With over 22 years of experience in NDT, he relocated to Singapore in 2015 to support the APAC NDT business. He was previously based in Québec, Canada, initially as part of the systems & integration team to bring Phased Array technology into online inspection systems. He then moved to the advanced portable product lines developing applications solutions namely in aerospace and oil and gas industries. From 2010 to 2015, he was Product Manager of the OmniScan PA-UT family.
