The new corrosion software module for the EPOCH® 6LT ultra-portable flaw detector expands the instrument’s capabilities with a suite of features to help you take fast, accurate and reproducible thickness measurements.
The corrosion software supports automatic probe recognition for all standard Olympus dual transducers, so users spend less time setting up the instrument and more time in the field. Simply plug in a supported probe, and the instrument is automatically configured for use. The software’s most powerful feature allows users to quickly switch between two modes—flaw detection and corrosion—to make corrosion inspections simple and effective.
In flaw detection mode, users get the speed and performance of an ultrasonic flaw detector to scrub for corrosion-related defects while maintaining traditional flaw detector gain linearity, gate control and 60 Hz screen update rates. Once a potential defect is located, inspectors can switch to corrosion mode with the push of a button.
Corrosion mode enables users to record precise spot measurements of remaining part thickness to thoroughly evaluate any areas of corrosion that are located during scanning. The software uses automatic gain control, V-path correction and the zero-cross measurement algorithm used on the Olympus 38DL PLUS® thickness gage to help ensure that measurements are accurate regardless of variations in signal amplitude or coupling conditions. An automatic do-zero function compensates for the time of flight through the transducer and delay line material, and two pulsing channels measure the offset from each dual transducer element to further improve measurement accuracy. Readings are saved into a color-coded grid for immediate visual feedback and easy reporting on inspections.
